Editorial Review:
DescriptionTake your family to Bloom County with the quirky perennial favorite Opus n' Bill in A Wish for Wings That Work, a whimsical, wacky cartoon treat that's as funny for grownups as it is fun for kids! From Pulitzer Prize-winning author-artist Berkeley Breathed, it's a merry, madcap romp with Opus the earthbound penguin and his brain-fried feline cohort, Bill.
Wrestling with an unfulfilled wish to soar through the air like any other self-respecting bird, the plucky penguin decides there's only one person who can make his aeronautic dream come true: Father Christmas. Bill the Cat coughs up a wild idea that just may bring a holiday miracle, but when ol' St. Nick finds himself in hot water on December 24th, the fate of Christmas itself suddenly depends on the kind of heroism that only comes in a penguin-sized package! Will Opus come to the rescue and learn the value of being true to oneself?

I've liked this Video for years, and couldn't wait for it to come out in
DVD Format. ( My VHS Tape was getting a little thin )Too Funny for Kids;
Some of the Humor would fly over their heads.Adults everywhere will make the viewing of this Classic an " Annual Ritual " just like 'Christmas Story ' or 'Rudolph' ................ A " MUST HAVE "
Rating: - Hideous, Absolutely Hideous
I think is the most hideous thing Berkely Breathed has ever come up with. It has no humor what so ever and the obvious moral is to say the least cliche! Why not simply retitle it: A Child's Cartoon of It's A Wonderful Life? It has none of the sarcasm or satire of the Opus comic strip characters of Bloom County, Outland, and Opus. What others see in this cartoon I do not know. However, I can understand why the character was never made into a movie or a play. The satire of Opus, like with Doonesbury ... Read More

My boyfriend and I have been watching a Wish for wings that work since we have been together! We used to rent it at the video store but they had gotten rid of it. I found a VHS copy and I was so excited to see this on Amazon! I got it yesterday and It said it was Digitally remasterd however it looked very grainy. I was surprised at the low quality of the colors. They looked very muted. I However love this cartoon and the memories it brings!
Rating: - Great video, no extras
This is a WONDERFUL, short, video. A classic we've watched dozens of times on VHS that we recorded when A Wish For Wings That Work was originally broadcast in the early 90's. This DVD is a good quality copy and still fun to watch. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that there are NO extras. Nothing, just the original, uncut animation. Some behind the scenes, interviews, some extras would have made it spectacular. But even without that, it's still worth getting. Enjoy!
